What is a temporary email address?

A temporary email address — also called a disposable, throwaway or burner email — is a real, working inbox you can use in place of your personal address. TempMail gives you one instantly: pick any name in front of the @, share it wherever an email is required, and read whatever arrives right here in your browser. When you are done, walk away and let it self-destruct.

Every website, free trial and one-time download wants your email, and most of them will keep mailing you long after you have lost interest. A disposable inbox breaks that cycle: your real address stays private, your primary inbox stays clean, and any spam that shows up simply expires with the temporary mailbox.

Protect your real inbox

Hand out a disposable address instead of your personal email and keep spam, marketing blasts and data-breach fallout away from the inbox that matters.

Instant, no sign-up

An address is ready the moment the page loads and incoming mail appears within seconds, refreshing automatically — no registration, no confirmation step.

Cleans up after itself

Messages auto-delete after 7 days and unclaimed mailboxes disappear after 15. Nothing lingers unless you choose to claim it with a Pro plan.

Built for testing too

Developers use TempMail to test sign-up and password-reset flows without polluting a real inbox — and Pro users can automate it through the API.

Ready to try it? Your address is waiting at the top of the page — or compare the free and Pro plans and read more on the TempMail blog.

FAQ

Everything you wanted to know

What is a temporary email address?+

A temporary (or disposable) email address is a real, working inbox you can use instead of your personal email. It receives messages instantly and requires no registration, so you can sign up for sites, download files or verify accounts without exposing your primary address to spam.

Is TempMail free to use?+

Yes. Generating addresses and reading incoming mail is free forever, with no account required. A Pro plan adds unlimited addresses, API access and the ability to claim a mailbox so it never expires.

How long do temporary emails and mailboxes last?+

Individual messages are automatically deleted after 7 days. A mailbox you have not claimed self-destructs after 15 days, and all of its messages are permanently removed with it. Claiming a mailbox (a Pro feature) keeps it and its address indefinitely.

Can the sender or anyone else see my real identity?+

No. Temporary addresses are not linked to your real email or name. We do not require registration to receive mail and we do not attach personal identifiers to disposable inboxes.

Can I choose my own email address?+

Yes. Type any name in front of the @ on the homepage and it becomes your address instantly, as long as it is not already claimed by another user. You can also switch between the available domains.

Is using a temporary email legal?+

Using a disposable inbox to protect your privacy, avoid spam or test your own sign-up flows is perfectly legal. Like any tool, it should not be used for fraud, harassment or to break another service’s terms in a way that harms others.

Can I send emails from a temporary address?+

TempMail is receive-only by design. You can read and manage incoming messages, but you cannot send mail from a disposable address — this keeps the service safe from spam and abuse.
